Yang Dolma Tamang, a resilient 16-year-old, originates from the picturesque valleys of western Nepal. Fifteen years ago, her family embarked on a journey in search of employment, eventually settling in Ladakh, India. Despite dedicating long hours to arduous construction labor, they struggle to make ends meet, grappling with the harsh reality of earning below minimum wage.

Within the confines of their home, Yang Dolma has witnessed the haunting specter of abuse and alcoholism, her father's actions culminating in criminal charges for assault. Amidst the turmoil, her mother shoulders the burden of raising Yang Dolma and her sibling, toiling tirelessly to provide for their basic needs. Yet, despite their efforts, the family grapples with malnutrition and health issues stemming from years of neglect and heavy labor.

In the face of adversity, Yang Dolma shines as a beacon of resilience and determination. For the past four years, she has found refuge and support at Home of the Snow Lions, a sanctuary provided by Amrita-Seattle for at-risk girls. Her unwavering commitment to her studies has earned her recognition as a top-notch student, always striving to excel.

Beyond the classroom, Yang Dolma's talents extend to the football field, where she dazzles with her skill and prowess. In 2022, she proudly represented the Ladakh women’s U-17 football team at the Junior National Football Championship in Guwahati, Assam, showcasing her dedication and passion for the sport.

Through her journey, Yang Dolma exemplifies the transformative power of resilience and determination, illuminating a path toward a brighter future despite the shadows of adversity.
