Tsering Angmo, a resilient 10-year-old, hails from the valleys of western Nepal alongside her older sister, Yangdolma. A decade ago, their family migrated from Nepal to Ladakh, India, in pursuit of employment, undertaking grueling hours as construction laborers for meager wages below the minimum threshold. Despite their tireless efforts, meeting the family's basic needs remains an ongoing challenge.

Angmo and her sister have witnessed years of domestic hardships, including abuse and alcoholism at home. Their father faced criminal charges for assault, further complicating their already difficult circumstances. Angmo's mother, toiling long hours, struggled to provide for her two daughters, resulting in a constant battle to make ends meet for essential necessities, leading both sisters to suffer from malnutrition.

The adverse effects of neglect, a nutrient-poor diet, and strenuous labor took a toll on Angmo's mother, who began experiencing health issues. Despite these challenges, Angmo has proven to be a dedicated student. For the past four years, she has found solace and support at Home of the Snow Lions, a residential facility provided by Amrita-Seattle for at-risk girls. Despite her tumultuous background, Angmo excels academically and consistently strives to achieve her best, showcasing her resilience and determination.
