Grab n' Go Meals — volunteer in five steps

Every Saturday and Sunday, sixty packed meals go out to young people living in King County's sanctioned tent encampments. Since January 2025 we haven't missed a weekend. Here's how to take one.

1. Pick your date

Choose a Saturday or Sunday on the sign-up calendar. Saturdays go to Tent City 3, Sundays to Tent City 4; once a month, a run goes to the Tiny Cabin villages at Interbay and Maple Leaf. A group of four to eight is ideal — one group can take a whole weekend.

2. Shop for sixty

Each bag holds a sandwich — turkey, ham or roast beef with cheese — a piece of fresh fruit, a juice box and a bottle of water, a granola or protein bar, and a snack. Groceries for sixty bags run about $400; the shopping list is below, and we'll send it with your confirmation. If you'd rather sponsor a delivery than shop, you can — see the note at the end. If you'd rather sponsor a delivery than shop, you can — see the note below.

3. Pack the bags

Make it an event: a kitchen, a garage, an office break room. Pack the morning of your delivery so the sandwiches are fresh, and keep them chilled. Anyone handling food needs a Washington State Food Worker Card — a thirty-minute online course, $10, and we'll register your group. Take photos; we share them.

4. Drop off

Bring the bags in coolers to Amrita-Seattle by on your delivery day — address sent with your confirmation.

5. Deliver, if you'd like

Our crew takes the bags to the camp between 9:00 and 1130 AM. You're welcome to come. Most volunteers who do it once ask to do it again.

Can't shop or pack?

A gift of $400 covers one full delivery — sixty meals, one weekend morning, one camp. Give once, or give monthly and keep a Saturday covered all year.
