Clean Water Program

Arsenic poisoning in West Bengal has been a long-standing public health crisis, with millions of people at risk of exposure to dangerously high levels of arsenic in their drinking water. This issue emerged in the 1980s when tube wells were installed to provide safe drinking water, but unfortunately, many of these wells tapped into arsenic-contaminated groundwater sources.

Chronic exposure to arsenic can lead to severe health problems, including skin lesions, cancers, and neurological disorders. The government and various NGOs have been working tirelessly to address this crisis, implementing initiatives like water testing, the installation of arsenic-free water sources, and public awareness campaigns to mitigate the devastating impact of arsenic poisoning on the affected population in West Bengal.

Murshidabad district, West Bengal, is one of the most affected region of Arsenic Contamination in India where around 1/3 of population are directly or indirectly affected by this catastrophe. Around 24blocks (out of 26) are severely affected by the contamination.
